Jack Robert Goodman, M.D.

Jack was born and raised in Queens, NY to Murray and Rita Goodman. He arrived in New Orleans at the age of 18 to attend Tulane University, where he pledged the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He remained at his beloved Tulane through medical school, where he met his truest love and best friend, Cheryll Weeks. After a month of dating, they were engaged and would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on October 8th of this year.

After medical school, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged with the rank of Major. He then returned to New Orleans– the city he loved - to begin his residency in Urology. An eternal optimist, Jack’s truest loves were his family, Tulane, the Saints, golf, his country, and his Jewish faith. While in private practice, he co-founded the Urologic Institute, where he helped pioneer the routine use of Ultrasound in the office setting and facilitated the early adoption of Lithotripsy in New Orleans. During this time, he served as Chief of Staff at Joellen Smith Hospital. He later began his teaching career, where he had dual appointments at both Tulane and LSU. In 1999, he was promoted to Clinical Professor of Urology and subsequently became Chairman of the faculty advisory group. During this time, he was appointed to the LSUHSC Board of Directors and oversaw Urologic teaching for students, while serving as the supervisor of the Charity Hospital Urology Clinic.

His dual passions for golf and photography inspired him to travel the world with his camera; his beautiful photos have adorned the halls of Ochsner Hospital and other businesses and homes. Famous for being the first to arrive anywhere, he schlepped his family to every Tulane game– always in time to watch the players stretch and vendors set up. Jack also loved the mountains and turned his love of skiing into an even greater love of Colorado in the summer, spending close to 30 years in Basalt with an amazing group of friends and another place to call home.

He was heavily involved in the charity, Fore! Kids Foundation, and nothing made him happier than sharing his passions with those he loved. Jack was beloved by many friends and will be missed terribly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Goodman, father, Murray Goodman, and sister, Joan Cohen. He is survived by his wife, Cheryll, his sister, Barbara Fischtrom, his children, Marloe (Tony) and Micah (Lisa), and his grandchildren, Jake, Brady, and Ryder.

He was laid to rest on September 3rd at Hebrew Rest No. 3. A celebration will be hosted at a later date.
