H. Gordon Hartman, an attorney at law, died at age 82 on November 14, 2014. Mr. Hartman is survived by his children, Mary Clare Hartman, H. Eric Hartman, Monica H. North (Earl T. North II), Mary Elizabeth H. Lawson (Donald W. Lawson), Emily M. Hartman and J. Matthew Hartman. He is the son of the late Marie Williams Hartman and the late Henry Burton Hartman and brother of the late Betty Hartman Averill. He is also survived by three nephews, a niece and several grand and great-grand nephews and nieces.
Gordon was a practicing attorney for more than 60 years. He was graduated from Loyola University School of Law and Jesuit High School. He served in the Officers’ Reserve Corps in the United States Army and the Louisiana National Guard. He served on the Advisory Board of Loyola University School of Law and was a member of the St. Thomas More Law Society. Gordon was an active parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He received the Order of St. Louis IX medallion for his devotion to the work of the Catholic Church throughout the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans. Gordon served as Vice President of the Serra Club International and as President of the Serra Club of Downtown New Orleans. He also served on numerous Boards of Directors including those of Notre Dame Seminary, the New Orleans Provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph, St. Joseph Abbey and Manresa House, where he attended 62 consecutive retreats. Gordon was active with Associated Catholic Charities for many decades and served as a Trustee for Our Lady of the Rosary Church. He received numerous awards from the organizations to which he devoted his energies.
