Gayle Elise Nicholas Thomas was born on August 18, 1942 in New Orleans and passed away April 11, 2024 in Algiers.
Gayle graduated from Mount Carmel Academy and Loyola University (NOLA). She had a bachelor’s of education and taught for 35 years, first at McDonogh #45 and then Eisenhower Elementary the year it opened. Gayle enjoyed retiring in 1999. She enjoyed watching Perry Mason, British mysteries, reading, and watching her grandsons. The boys often preferred to be with their G.G. over their parents.
Gayle is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Andrew P. Thomas, Jr. ; her father, Henry Milton; and mother, Marie Elise Nadau du Treil Nicholas. She is survived by her only child, Cassandra Thomas Zimmerman; son by marriage, Daniel; two grandsons, Thomas and Henry Zimmerman; brother, William Nicholas; and sister, Margie Lezina.
Gayle wished to be cremated, and a memorial mass will be held May 4, 2024 at 11am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Algiers.
