She grew up with her beloved brother, Ki Hummel, in Old Jefferson and attended St. Agnes Elementary School, Dominican High School, and later Delgado Community College. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Andy. They shared 68 loving years of marriage and together raised seven wonderful boys. She worked as a paraprofessional/instructional assistant at J.C. Ellis Elementary School. It was a job she enjoyed for 30 years. Lynne and Andy were parishioners of St. Angela Merici for over 60 years where she was a member of the choir. She was quick to turn any opportunity, holiday or weekend, into an excuse to entertain and all were welcome. She loved being around people and whether helping someone with something, cooking and hosting a party, or traveling for family or fun, she never met a stranger and would leave a lasting impact. Lynne considered herself very blessed with a large family and close friends. She had 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and had the good fortune of having many friends that enriched her life with love and happiness.
Lynne is survived by her loving family including: her spouse, Andrew Fred Buckel, Jr., her brother, Ki Hummel, her sons, Brian (Joanne), Mike (Charlene), Ricky, Kevin, Tim (Anita), David (Cindy) and Tommy (Melissa). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Chad (Chantal), Chris (Maria), Mike, Nicky (Joanna), Jamie, Andrew, Caroline (Matt) Kobylski, Stephen, Grace, Dylan, Molly, as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Leila, Tristan, Emma, Lyla, Eve and Avery.
Beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, mentor and friend, Lynne will be truly missed by family, friends and all those who knew her. Lynne’s last request was that we pray for the repose of her soul.
Services for Lynne will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at St. Angela Merici Church (901 Beverly Garden Dr., Metairie, LA 70002). Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Memory of Lynne beginning at 12 PM. Immediately following the service, we will have a Celebration of Lynne’s Life at Westgate Country Club located at 2326 Iowa Ave, Kenner, LA 70062.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CURE Childhood Cancer at www.curechildhoodcancer.org/donate. This was a favorite charity of Lynne’s since one of her grandchildren is a pediatric cancer survivor.
