Born on October 8, 1941, in Reichenthal, Austria, Erhard became a permanent resident of the New Orleans area in 1967. He served honorably with the Austrian military before embarking on a life that would leave an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A devoted Catholic, Erhard lived with purpose and compassion, bringing warmth and kindness to everyone he met. Known for his adventurous spirit and his deep commitment to family and neighbors, Erhard found joy in travel, nature, and the simple pleasures of life. He was happiest outdoors—skiing down mountain slopes, reading, gardening, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. A lover of animals, Erhard connected with all living things around him.
With a rich background in European hospitality, Erhard’s exceptional work ethic and dedication became his legacy. Over a distinguished 48-year career, he served in some of the finest hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships across Europe and the New Orleans area. His contributions to establishments like Louis XVI, Commander’s Palace, Broussard’s, Andrea’s, and Le Pavillon Hotel left an indelible mark on the industry and served as an inspiration to countless colleagues.
Erhard faced his battle with cancer with courage, climbing as far as he could. Now, his journey continues as he climbs new heights in heaven. Team Erhard Forever!
Erhard was a devoted husband to his wife of 50 years, Theresa Thumfart; a cherished father to his daughter, Vanessa Thumfart Luce, and son-in-law, Christian Luce; and a loving grandfather to his granddaughter, Victoria Wilson, great-grandson, Bryson Patrick, and granddog, Beau. He is survived by his sister, Eleonora Edelbauer (Friedrich) and niece, Claudia Schmidthuber (Hermann). He was also a beloved mentor and “bonus father” to seven children: Julie Spiess (Brett), Theresa “Tracie” Mueser (Chris), Salvadore Salone, Dina Silva (Rene), Regina Garrett (Denver), Maryann Drumm (Karl), and Michael Salone (Becky).
