Emile Claude Rufin died peacefully on June 29, 2016 at the age of 98. He was born August 17, 1917 to the late Eleonore Bordes Rufin and Denis E. Rufin. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Dorothy Gay Rufin. He leaves behind his daughters, Lettie R. Moll (Rodney), and Nanette R. Mc Crossen (Thomas), and step-son, Howard Mason (Judi). He is the grandfather of Dr. David E. Moll (Katy), Leslie R. Moll, Alyson N. Moll, Stephanie W. Wilson (Jack) and Patrick R. Wilson and step grandfather of Brooke Mason and Catherine Perez; great grandfather of Kathryn Wilson, Sara Wilson, Charlotte Moll and Caroline Moll. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Belcher Rufin and his siblings, Zoe Callac, Lucille Riecke, Jean Albert Rufin, Denis E. Rufin Jr. and Leontine Toye. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Emile attended Fortier High School and Louisiana State University where he played varsity baseball from 1938-1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Emile owned and operated Ye Olde College Inn Restaurant with his two brothers and later his nephew (Ray Riecke) for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer and supporter of L.S.U. and Tulane athletics. He was especially proud of his family’s sponsorship of American Legion baseball and various youth athletic programs in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at ST. PIUS X CHURCH at 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church prior to Mass. Special thanks to Chateau de Notre Dame and Notre Dame Hospice for their care and attention. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X Church or Chateau de Notre Dame.
