Elaine Pomes LeBas, affectionately known as “Mere”, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the age of 82. Beloved mother of Elaine Hauler (John) of Baton Rouge, LA; John LeBas, Jr. of Houston, TX; Robert LeBas (Tina) of Estill Springs, TN.; Julie Taraba (Daryl) of Garland TX; and Michelle Bowen (Timothy) of Burlington, WI. Former mother-in-law of Cindy Montz LeBas. Survived by one sister, Sister Velma Rose Pomes, MMS, and three brothers, Maurice (Sandy); Frank (Carol); and Charles Pomes (Pat). Grandmother of Shannon Hauler; John LeBas, III (Judy); Renee LeBas; and Lauren Trahan; Melissa Wheeler (Wes); Wendy LeBas; Daniel (Tara); Brian; Jeffrey; Matthew Taraba; Emilie; Elizabeth; and Rachael Bowen. Great-grandmother of J. Preston LeBas and Logan Pratt. Also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews. Preceded in death by her husband John C. LeBas, Sr. Daughter of the late Maurice and Velma Pomes and daughter-in-law of the late Lee and Ida LeBas.A native of New Orleans and long-time resident of Arabi, Elaine moved to Garland, Texas following Hurricane Katrina. Elaine was a former Girl Scout Troop leader and Unit leader. She was also very active in St. Louise de Marillac Parish and a member of Father Clarence Hug KC Auxiliary. She was a long time CCD teacher, adult CYO advisor, parish council member and the Peoples Program in New Orleans.
Relatives and friends of the family, former parishioners of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church in Arabi, and former residents and staff of Malta Square Residence are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will take place from 9:00 A.M. until the start of Mass with a Rosary at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Louis # 3 Cemetery. Masses preferred in lieu of flowers.
