Dorothy Marion (nee Barilleaux) Donegan passed peacefully at her home in River Ridge on Monday, December 21, 2020, at the age of 91. "Dot" was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, Dennis Michael Donegan Sr. Both were natives of New Orleans, where they met, married, and started a family. They later moved to River Ridge in 1961 and continued to grow their family.
Dot was the loving mother of Dennis M. Donegan (Martha Voutas), Darnell Donegan Favaloro (Tony), Diane Donegan Spinato (Mike), Daniel "Danny" Donegan (Angela Lowe), David Donegan (Donna Hogan), and the late Dorothy "Dottie" Donegan.
“Miss Dot” was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Michael, Hershel, Katie, Nicole (Gene), Anthony, Brian, Ross (Alison), Lily, Colin, Molly and Madison. She was great-grandmother to Leo, her "Little Man.” Dot was also honorary great-grandmother to Liam, Austin, and Avery.
Dot was daughter of the late Elaine (nee Laiche) Barilleaux and Eugene Barilleaux and step-daughter of Lucille Barilleaux. She is survived by her brother Eugene “Chick” Barilleaux (Vivian) and sister Judy Barilleaux Cavalier (late Jimmy). She was preceded in death by her sisters, Iris Barilleaux Pansano (Norman) and Geraldine "Gerry" Barilleaux Jene, and brother-in-law (Ralph). She is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces who often shared Monday night "Bean Night" with the Donegan clan. Dot and her late husband would lovingly host the open-table event, a favorite of the Donegans, which continues to this day.
Many thanks to Kathee and Amanda for the loving care they gave to our mother.
A proud homemaker most of her life, Dorothy cared for her family first; they were her life, her love, her happiness. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, where she was a weekly adorer of the Adoration Chapel. Dorothy had many hobbies she shared with her family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting intricate Christmas ornaments and cooked up a mean praline as well as divinity and other sugary confections. Dot and Dennis played canasta weekly, with sisters, brothers and neighbors – and, of course, there were weekly Bingo Nights and monthly casino trips. Her family fondly recalls the generous, shared winnings of a remarkably lucky lady.
