Delores (Nook) Thomas, was born on October 5, 1944 in Maringouin, LA to the late Lillie Bell and Percy Nero. She passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024. At an early age, she left the country dirt roads for the city lights of New Orleans, LA where she lived out her adult life. Known for her vibrant personality, Delores was a firecracker, always ready with a witty remark or a sassy response. She made friends everywhere she went. She was a remarkable cook and through her love of cooking, she dedicated over 10 years at the non-profit Hope House cooking and serving the homeless. Delores was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memories her four daughters, Charlisa Carter, Arica Nero, Kewenda Mckinnis, and Kentrell Jones (Eric). Her only son, Otis Nero (Schwanda). Grandsons, Damion Carter (Katie), Lester Nero, Isaiah Jones, and Leo Willams. Granddaughters, Shavanna Collins (Alex), Paris Jones, Alana Mckinnis. Great-grandchildren, Damion Carter II, Damiya Carter, Davien Carter, Alexander Collins II, and Nala Creppel- Jones. Sisters, Carrie Lee Jones, Ollie Ruth Nero, and Doris Vaughn. Brother, Freddie Nero along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She is proceeded in death by her mom and dad Lillie Bell & Percy Nero. Sister Essie Mae Thompson. Brothers Percy Nero, Robert Nero, and Marshal Nero. Grandson De’andre Jones and son-in-law Anthony Carter. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM until the service begins at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
