Daisy LaJaunie Barrett died peacefully at 92 years old on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 9:50pm. She was preceded in death by her husband, who was the love of her life, Ralph Bruce Barrett, as well as by her granddaughter, Bonnie Rae Parker, and her four brothers, Nelson LaJaunie Sr., Junius LaJaunie, Francis LaJaunie, and Henry LaJaunie. Daisy was a lifelong resident of Louisiana. She was born in Chacahoula and raised in Algiers where she attended Behrman High School. She made her home and spent most of her life in River Ridge, then lived her final years in Covington. She was a devout member and supporter of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge. She was the President of Theta Rho Beta Sorority on the West Bank. She loved Mardi Gras and was a maid in the Krewe of Choctaw, spent many years parading with The Delta Carnival Krewe, and was a devoted New Orleans Saints fan. Daisy was an expert seamstress with a passion for quilting and was a member of two different quilting groups. She lived a full life and delighted in traveling throughout the US and several other countries. She enjoyed monthly outings with her friends lovingly called, “The Lunch Bunch” for many years. She is survived by her three children, Susan Parker (Kathy), Bruce Barrett, and John Barrett (Ginesse); her five grandchildren, Amy Parker, Caitlin Barrett, Morgan Chamberlain (Tom), Emily Barrett, and Cassidy Barrett; her three sisters, Linda Firmin, Elva LaJaunie, and Carrie Carrigee, as well as many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her family will remember her for her quick wit, glamorous style, and sassy personality. They would like to thank the staff of Forest Manor of Covington for their loving and devoted service. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 3:00 PM. A visitation and reception will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow Mass in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
