Claire Peragine Meaney was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 29, 1956, the first daughter of Frank John and Anne Kothe Peragine. She grew up in New Orleans, where she resided until her passing on December 14, 2018. Claire was an amazing person, wife, mother, sibling, and friend. She deeply moved every person she touched, and she will be remembered by family and friends as a vivacious, joyful, funny, and loving soul with a quick wit, a never-ending smile, and a propensity to dance and sing. She loved her family first, and then all of life. As a child at Holy Name of Jesus School, Claire discovered three lifelong joys: friends, learning, and basketball. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, then majored in English at Roanoke College in Virginia before attending the Paul M. Hebert School of Law in Baton Rouge. She enjoyed tremendous professional success, and her personal life was full. She loved to laugh, make others laugh, and be silly on occasion. Inspiring to the end, she wrote, late in her life: “look at the world and wonder every day.” She is survived by the love of her life, John Meaney, her two sons, Matthew Hunter and Evan Hunter, her father, her sister Martha, her two brothers Christopher and Alex, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation beginning at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, Louisiana.
