Cheryl Sonia Washington, 78, passed away on July 11, 2024. She was born on July 23, 1945 in New York City. She received her B.A. in English Literature from Boston University and taught the subject at Pensacola High School in Florida. Cheryl was an avid reader, a film lover, a patron of many art galleries and museums, and used to volunteer at the New Orleans Museum of Art. She was known for maintaining all of her long distance friendships from all the cities she had lived in and was known for being a devoted caretaker to many furry friends.
Cheryl is survived by her loving children, daughter, Erika Washington-Wittich (Andrew Wittich) and, son, Robert Brian Washington, her granddaughter, Haley Sonya Wittich, extended family, friends, and many former students. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Brooks Jackson, Sr and Helen Vivian Jackson, as well as her three brothers, Alexander B. Jackson, Bruce B. Jackson, and John H. Jackson.
There will be services to remember Cheryl’s life conducted by Reverend Fred Duvall on July 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Road, with a visitation before beginning at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations made in her name to St. Martin’s Episcopal School.
