Carol deVillentroy Daigle passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the age of 89 at her home in Metairie, Louisiana. Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hilton Francis Daigle, Jr., her parents, Olga Garic and Joseph Bellier deVillentroy, Jr., her brother, Joseph Bellier “J.B.” deVillentroy, III, and her sister, Mary Lynn “Cissy” McShane. Carol is survived by her four children, Mark Alan Daigle, Michele Marie Daigle, Sharon Anne Daigle and Eric Michael Daigle (Lisa); eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Daigle, Melissa Daigle Williams (Beau), Mary Daigle, Brittany Doussan, Ross Doussan (Matlin), Nicholas Daigle, Danielle Daigle and Lauren Daigle, and eight great-grandchildren, Deven Daigle, Ava Daigle, Chloe Williams, Preston Williams, Cydni Williams, Kaleb Williams, Addilynn Doussan and Alivia Doussan and numerous cousins.
A valedictorian graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in New Orleans, Carol began her career with Curtis & Davis Architects, AIA, before working for over 50 years as the Executive Assistant for the Honorable James E. Fitzmorris, Jr., former Lieutenant Governor for the State of Louisiana and President and CEO of Fitzmorris & Associates, Inc. She also worked as a Realtor for both Gertrude Gardner, Inc. and Fitzmorris & Associates, Inc. She was a Charter Member of Women In Construction, Former Member of St. Christopher School Board, St. Christopher Building Committee, St. Benilde Teen Center Building Committee and Little Sisters of the Poor Gala Committee.
Carol was a woman of extraordinary grace, humility, kindness and character, who enjoyed a deep devotion to her Catholic faith, always putting God and others first, while giving unselfishly to others. She was a true humanitarian, caring for the least of those no matter a person’s status or background. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Affectionately known for wearing a different broach for every occasion, she was oftentimes the most stately dressed woman in the room. She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Yager, his medical staff and all of the caregivers throughout the years who helped make Carol’s life just a little bit easier, with special thanks to Donice “Dee” Rayford, a true angel sent by God who made sure that Carol remained a beacon of light wherever she went, especially during her almost daily visits to the Lakeview Shephard Center.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass and celebration of Carol’s life at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division Street in Metairie on Monday, March 4, 2024 at noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mount Carmel Academy, 7027 Milne Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124 or a charity of your choice are preferred.
