Carl Joseph Schaubhut, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Vincent Schaubhut; his parents, Edward and Doris Comeaux Schaubhut; his step-mother, Rose Schaubhut; his brothers, Wade and Eric Schaubhut; and his sister, Betsy Hyman.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Rose Maffei Schaubhut; two daughters, Anne Madeline Schaubhut and Alyssa Rose Schaubhut; his son, Jonathan Edward Schaubhut; two grandchildren, Catherine Curran Schaubhut and Carl Joseph Schaubhut, II; two sisters, Gretchen Johnston and Heidi Hendry; his daughter-in-law, Alix Long; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Carl was a proud graduate of St. John Prep High School, class of 1971. He continued his education in New Orleans, obtaining a bachelor’s from Loyola University and receiving his MBA from the University of New Orleans. Carl found the love of his life, Rose, in high school, and together they crafted a life full of love and shared experiences. His career as a Bank Examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department offered him extensive travel opportunities. Carl was an exceptional dad, and his grandchildren extended that attribute even further. Carl made everyone, from his siblings growing up, to his extended family and friends, laugh with his dry wit. Even in his final days, he never lost that sense of humor. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish and a member of the Corner Club marching group. Carl loved to cook, especially with his son, Chef Carl, whether it be on the grill or in the kitchen with his famous gumbo and other Cajun dishes. Carl coached his children for many years at the Carrollton Booster’s Club in both baseball and soccer. Lover of all things New Orleans such as Mardi Gras costuming, St Patrick’s Day Parade marching, local sports, and the Cubs, Carl cheered on the Saints even when they didn’t warrant his devotion! He always felt lucky to have seen the world traveling with Rose and his children. He loved nothing more than spending time with his dear family, hearing all about their lives from the meals they cooked to their travel adventures to the school projects and plays. Carl’s legacy is one of unquantifiable love, humor, and wisdom. His mark was indelible and far-reaching, a life well-lived.
