Friends and family come together in sadness at the passing of Carl Robert Orr, age 60. Beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, Carl died peacefully on March 2, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Memphis, TN, Carl was a graduate of Trinity Episcopal School, Columbia Military Academy, the University of Mississippi and Rutgers University's Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Following a successful banking career in New Orleans, spanning several decades, Carl retired from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank. For the last several years, he took great interest and pleasure in managing his family's farming interests in Como, MS.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Elise Johnson Orr; mother, Carol Heyer Smith, step-father Charles Rodney Smith M.D.; siblings Robert Wardlaw Orr, Jr. (Cathy Hornsby), Rodney Wilson Smith M.D. and Helen Smith Guidry (James, Sr.); nieces and nephews Caroline Hornsby Orr, Rodney Wilson Smith, Jr., Corinne Brignac Smith, Eugenie "Gigi" Heyer Smith, Ella Grace Smith, James Collin Guidry, Jr. and Carol Frances Guidry; and his beloved pet and constant companion, cocker spaniel Beaucoup Orr. Carl was predeceased by his father, Robert Wardlaw Orr, Sr. and grandparents Edward Robert Orr, Jr., Miriam Wardlaw Orr, Carl Christopher Heyer and Helen Woelfert Heyer "Momo", his maternal grandmother with whom he had an especially close relationship.
Profoundly missed and cherished, Carl will be fondly remembered as a Christian man of integrity, loyalty and love of family. Carl will also be remembered for his unique love of his alma mater, Ole Miss, never missing an opportunity to extol the virtues of an Ole Miss educational experience to his nieces and nephews! He was very active socially and in the community as member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Society of St. George, past member of the New Orleans Country Club, board member of The New Orleans Opera Association and several other carnival and social organizations.
A visitation is scheduled for 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church Chapel, 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a memorial in Carl's name to the Louisiana SPCA, 1700 Mardi Gras Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70114 (504-368-5191) or the charity of your choice.
