Barbara was born on March 28, 1940 to John and Heloise Dillon in New Orleans, LA. Barbara attended St. Catherine of Sienna grade school and graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1958. After graduation, Barbara went on to work at New Orleans Public Service (NOPSI) and later as the ad writer for Gertrude Gardner Realtors.
On October 29, 1967 Barbara married Eddie Mayer and the two were inseparable from that point on. In 1969 they welcomed their first child, Michael Gregory Mayer, followed by the birth of their daughter, Leslie Mayer Killian, in 1972.
Barbara was a fiercely dedicated mom to both of her children, raising them to go on to accomplish great things. Family came first and was above all else to Barbara, a value she instilled in all those around her. She was passionate about her Catholic faith and was a long-time parishioner of St. Benilde Catholic Church. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents John Edward Dillon and Heloise Werner Dillon. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of more than 54 years, Edmund (Eddie) Mayer, her two children Michael (Tina) and Leslie Killian (Paul), her siblings Patrick Dillon, Jack Dillon, Darlene Dillon Christian (Dennis), Debbie Dillon Wheeler, and Matthew Dillon (Jeanelle.) She was the beloved grandmother, affectionately known as “Barbie”, to her two grandchildren Carter Killian and Brianna Killian. Barbara is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 12:00PM.
