Arthur F. Giles, Jr.

Arthur F. Giles, Jr. passed away on June 6, 2023 at the age of 97. He was born and raised in Richardson, Texas on November 20, 1925. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines, serving at the end of WWII. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He proudly worked as an instructor of mechanics with General Motors for 36 years prior to retiring. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, working on and rebuilding cars, and growing the best tomatoes and pecans in River Ridge, LA.

He is preceded in death by: his wife of 51 years, Ella “Miss Ellie” P. Giles; his parents, Arthur Giles, Sr. and Bertha Giles; his son, Arthur “Trey” Giles, III; his sister, Dorothy Nell Rucker; and his brother, William “Billy” Giles. He is survived by: his daughters, Claire Mayor (Blair) and Ginny Poimboeuf (John); his grandchildren, Katie Hastings (Jeff), Lauren Mora (Brian), Ashley Dean (Shelby), Jillian Poimboeuf, Cora Thomas, and Dylan Mayor; and his great-grandchildren, June, Giles, Dakoda, Avery, Preston, Ava, and Brooks.

The family would like to give their special thanks to MaryLynn Cisco and to the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve, LA for the care they provided to him at the end of his life.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. A funeral service is to immediately follow visitation at 11:00 a.m., and interment is to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose, LA.
