Anton Peter Yrle, known affectionately as “Pete,” passed away at his home on May 21, 2023 at the age of 82. He attended Holy Cross High School in New Orleans and graduated in 1958. After high school, Mr. Yrle attended the University of New Orleans (UNO). Pete was a founding member of the Theta Mu Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) social fraternity with Andrew Flores, August Lanasa, and Charles Foti. When he met his future wife, Gussie, he became more serious about his education and received his BA in General Business with a minor in Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1971. He went on to pursue a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Loyola University in New Orleans, and passed the Certified Public Accountant Examination (CPA) in March of 1977.
Before he received his CPA Certification, Pete was employed in the property accounting division of NOPSI, New Orleans Public Service, Inc. for many years. In 1982, Mr. Yrle opened his own CPA firm, and continued his passion for accounting by helping small and medium sized businesses tackle their bookkeeping and income tax problems for over 40 years.
Mr. Yrle was a member of the Air National Guard and was elected Treasurer of the Public Service Toastmasters Club #3174 in 1978. In addition, Pete served on the Archbishop Chapelle School Board from 1990 to 1992. His many professional memberships included the National Society of Public Accountants and the New Orleans Chapter of the Society of Louisiana CPAs. He was also awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Young Men’s Business Club of Greater New Orleans.
The son of the late Walter W. Yrle and Althea Voland, Pete was born in New Orleans on August 3, 1940, and eventually moved to Metairie with his loving wife in 1972. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Dr. Augusta Ciccio Yrle. They were married on February 19, 1966. Pete is survived by his daughter, Augusta Rose Yrle-Fryou, son-in-law, Ron M. Fryou, daughter, Antonette Joublanc Yrle-Gordon, and son-in-law Brian E. Gordon. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Augusta Rhiannon Fryou, Rowan Yrle Fryou, and Adrienne Rose Gordon.
For the majority of his life, Pete was active in several Mardi Gras organizations with his wife and daughters. They attended many of the coronations and balls of numerous carnival krewes throughout the years. He joined the Krewe of Pegasus in 1961 and his wife reigned as Queen in 1967. He remained a member of the organization until 1996. Pete had the distinct honor of serving as an officer in Pegasus for many years and reigned as King Pegasus XXXVII in 1994 opposite his daughter, Antonette, who reigned as his Queen. He was awarded the Krewe of Pegasus Christy J. Smith Memorial Award in 1996 in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service to the Club.
In 1997, Pete joined the Metairie Carnival Club, the Krewe of Zeus, where he also served as an officer for many years. He had the distinction of reigning as King of the organization twice, once as Zeus XLVI in 2003 and again as Zeus XLVIII in 2005. When Zeus folded, Pete joined the Krewe of Centurions in 2016 and had the honor of reigning as King Centurion XXXIX in 2018 alongside his grandchildren who served as pages and princesses that same year.
Pete will be missed dearly by his immediate and extended family and friends.
