He was born on September 17, 1927, in New Orleans and was a graduate of both Jesuit High School and Loyola University with a BA in accounting. He served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. In the mid- to late 1950s, he was an accountant at the Royal Street Corporation, owner of WDSU-TV and founded by Edgar B. Stern. After a few years, in the early 1960s, he moved to the administrative offices of the newly formed Louisiana State University of New Orleans (LSUNO). After several years there, to better support his growing family, he moved to National Food Products, Inc. (Luxury Brand), where he spent nearly thirty years as an Accountant, Treasurer, and Office manager.
Alces was a member of the National Association of Accountants and a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church. He also enjoyed amateur photography and passed on that interest to his son, John.
He is survived by daughters Kathryn Laiche Arce, Julie A. Laiche, and Patricia Laiche Daigle (Dennis); sons John T. Laiche and James E. Laiche; granddaughter Rachael Daigle Borne (Michael); brother Calvin J. Laiche; sister Mary L. Young; and many nieces and nephews.
Alces was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Betty Jean Rock Laiche, and his parents, Alces John Laiche and Flavia Collins Laiche.
