Registered Nurse whose career began in New York City. After studying nursing in college, she
found her calling in the operating room. Later in life, she briefly lived in Kansas before settling in
Waterford, CT , where she raised six children and built a lifetime of cherished memories.
Rita was a devoted Irish Roman Catholic whose faith brought her strength and comfort
throughout her life. She loved the ocean and found joy in spending time at the beach,
embracing the peace it offered. Her interests ranged from writing short stories to serving her
community on the Waterford Board of T ax Review. Above all, her heart was with her family, who
she loved unconditionally.
She is survived by her children: Martin McKinney Jr., Joanna Frank, Gerard McKinney, Walter
McKinney, and Alice McKinney-Lopez; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six dear
nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Genevieve and Daniel Hurley; her sister, Ann
Stratton; her daughter, Denise Webb; her son-in-law, Keith Frank; and her grandchildren,
Matthew and Tyler Frank.
Rita’s kindness, resilience, and deep love for her family will be remembered and treasured by all
who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:00am in St. Paul Church, 170 Rope Ferry Rd., Waterford, CT. A reception to celebrate her life will follow.
