After extended illness, on March 2, 2012, Jewell (Long) Clifton found peace. She was born in 1933 in Ridgeway, South Carolina, the daughter of John and Willie Mae (Belton) Long. She resided in New London for over 50 years.
Despite a massive stroke that left her disabled in 1958, Jewell was easy going and always had a smile for everyone she met. She was extremely generous, donating both money and time to others despite her personal circumstances. She enjoyed good food, socializing, and attending church; She had a hearty laugh that could light up a room.
She will be dearly missed by seven children-Sharon, Beverly, Diane, Gregory, Alvin, Ulysses, and Belle, two brothers-John and Arthur, two sisters-Margaret and Ann, two aunts-Mary and Della, one uncle-Leo, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Jewell was predeceased by her mother, father, two brothers-Charles and Harrison, and her husband.
A viewing will be held at 10am on Thursday, March 8th at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home in New London. The funeral service will follow at 11am. Please visit www.fultontherouxnewlondon.com for information or to sign the family's guestbook.
Don't grieve for me for now
I'm free to follow the path god has made for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day to love, to laugh
I have found peace at last
Perhaps my time seemed much too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God needs me now; he set me free
