Ann was born on October 28, 1919 in New Haven, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Ferraiola. After graduating from Hillhouse High and the New Haven Business School, she met and married Kenneth W. McBride on November 6, 1943. They relocated to the New London area during Ken’s 20+ year career in the U.S. Navy. Upon Ken’s retirement from the Navy and during his employment at General Dynamics, Electric Boat, they began a very successful home construction and real estate business in Groton, eventually expanding into Gales Ferry and Ledyard. Through the years both Ann and Ken were pleased to see their businesses pass to a second generation with their son, Ken, continuing with home construction/commercial development and their daughter, Beth and her husband, Richard, continuing to expand Ann McBride Real Estate Inc. in both sales and property management. Ann had a passion for business and she developed strong ties with hundreds of military families over her thirty year career. She felt highly complimented when she was awarded a special commendation by the commander of the Submarine Base for her pro bono efforts on behalf of the widows of the men of the USS Scorpion (SSN-589), assisting them to sell their homes and relocate. Ann’s passion for business was only exceeded by her love for cooking and baking for family and friends. Upon her retirement in 1984, Ann and Ken retired to Florida, where they enjoyed golfing and extensive traveling for many years. In 2003, they made a decision to return to Connecticut to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. By then, they were blessed to see a third generation, their grandson, Adam, become a valuable addition to Ann McBride, Real Estate, Inc. After 63 years of marriage, Ann lost the love of her life when Ken passed away on August 21, 2006.
She is survived by her sons Kenneth D. McBride and his wife Kathleen of Groton and Dr. Kevin A. McBride of Ledyard, a daughter Beth Mancini and her husband , Richard of Gales Ferry.
