NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Sybil Dugas Verret, age 85, at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Loreauville.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday and remain open until service time.
A native of Loreauville and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Verret passed away at 6:00 pm on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 6:00 PM.
Mrs. Verret loved to dance, read and attend garage sales. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a very bright, self-educated lady who excelled at various business issues. Mrs. Sybil was known to be an accomplished cook in prior years but gave up her apron for a permanent dining reservation in her retirement years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to acknowledge Mrs. Verret’s caregivers, Juanita and Pam Owens and her Sunday lunch companions, Pat and Kitty Marceaux for the care and dedication they gave to Mrs. Verret.
She is survived by her son, Allen J. Verret and wife Brenda of Franklinton; daughters, Allena Haskins and husband Phillip of New Iberia, Phyliss Poche of Loreauville; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Joseph Verret; parents, Laurent Dugas and Mercedes Provost Dugas; brother, Homer Dugas and son-in-law, Felton Poche.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
