NEW IBERIA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Reley Joseph Moneaux, Sr., age 85, at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Garrett Savoie officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum with military honors by the Iberia Parish Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Monday with a Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Tuesday until the service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Moneaux passed away at 5:30 am on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Abbeville.
Mr. Moneaux proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces during World War II. He enlisted into the service in 1947 when he was only sixteen years old was honorably discharged at the age of twenty five. Reley was stationed in Germany and acted as a tank operator. He later went on to join the construction industry where he worked for over thirty years. Mr. Moneaux started as a contractor for T.L James before starting his own business called Reley Moneaux’s Motor Grater Construction.
Reley was a very intelligent man and enjoyed figuring out how things worked. He had a passion for music. When he was young, he picked up the acoustic guitar and never put it down again. Reley had the privilege of playing alongside D.L Maynard in Erath when he was younger and. He could sing as well and would often sing to his late wife, Marylyn Gaspard Moneaux, but he preferred to play. Reley was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Moneaux is survived by his three sons, Reley Moneaux, Jr. and wife Brenda of Erath, Ricky “ Ricky Mo” Moneaux and wife Rita of New Iberia, and Marshall Moneaux and wife Shannon of New Iberia; five daughters, Bernadine Cox and husband Jim of Youngsville, Vernadine “Sister” Moneaux and companion John Ciancarelli of Princeton, TX, Vicky Sowers and husband Michael of Erath, Bernice Moneaux companion Timmy LeBlanc of New Iberia, and Patrina Maynard and husband Adrian of New Iberia; one daughter-in-law, Laurie Moneaux of New Iberia; thirty grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren with two more expected in January; and one sister, Jane McDuffie of Shreveport..
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marylyn Gaspard Moneaux; one son, Rodney Moneaux, Sr; parents, Desire Moneaux and Odealia Cormier Moneaux; step-father, Cleus Touchect; and siblings, John Moneaux, Edwin Moneaux, and Osaie Monot, Elva Mooe, and Bernice and Bersie Elais.
Pallbearers will be Reley Moneaux, Jr., Ricky Moneaux, Marshall Moneaux, Rodney Moneaux, Jr., Hank Moneaux, Joshua Moneaux, and David Moneaux.
