NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mildred L. David Dobbins, age 91, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Gary Schexnayder officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Tuesday with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 am until service time.
A native of Henry and resident of Broussard, Mrs. Dobbins passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. Joseph Carpenter House of Lafayette surrounded by her loving family.
Mildred had many accomplishments throughout her life. In the 50’s she graduated from cosmetology school in New Orleans, and together with her mother, Euphime Labit, owned and operated Babe’s Beauty Shop in New Iberia. In the early 60’s she was a competitive bowler and won first place in a competition. From 1975 to 1978, Mildred owned and managed Interior Décor Gift Shop. During that same time in 1975, she was crowned Mrs. Diet Workshop of Acadiana for her many recipes, personality looks, poise, and confidence. She was also later rewarded as Mrs. Diet Workshop of South Louisiana. Mildred was owner and in partnership with her late husband, Benny David, of Benny David’s Dirt Hauling Company for 40 years and managed their rental property for 65 years. Mildred will be remembered by many names; Mil, Millie, Aunt Mildred, Di Did, Nan, and most of all, Granny. Many will remember her hosting family and friend’s social events by preparing great Cajun meals and for her love of baking and sharing with family and friends. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mildred will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Bob Dobbins of Broussard, LA; daughters, Mary David Galleon and husband Joseph of Katy, TX and Tina David Mena and husband Salomon of Broussard; her special and only granddaughter, Mia Hoffpauir of Broussard; step-grandchildren, Clay David and Kim Lewis; and godchildren, Barbara Ann Labit, Sheryl Boudreaux Gaspard, and Karen Ann Bertelsman.
She is proceeded in death by her first husband, and father of her daughters, Maurice Joseph “Benny” David; parents, Adam and Euphime Rodriguez Labit; step-sons, Gayle Patrick David and Manuel Joseph David; and step-grandson, Ben Patrick David.
Pallbearers will be Mia Hoffpauir, Salomon Mena, Joseph Galleon, Frank Thibeaux, Gerald Gaspard, and Ricky Labit.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Bertelsman and Harvey Werner
The family would like to thank Acadian Home Health for going through this journey with us. Thanks also to Mrs. Mildred’s home sitters, Liz, Ms. T, Vivian, Cathy, Tracy, and Angela for their love and compassion. Special thanks also to the Bertelsman family, Aunt Willa, Karen, and Bernie for always being there for mom.
