Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:30 am at Evangeline Funeral Home for James Roy Briggs, Jr., age 65. Fr. David Furka, Associate Pastor at St. Peter’s Catholic Church will officiate the service.
Entombment will be held at The Bridge Cemetery in New Iberia.
The family requests visiting hours on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Evangeline Funeral Home. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday at 8:00 am until time of service.
Roy was born on October 18, 1957 in Houston, TX to the late James Roy Briggs, Sr. and Della Julie Bartek Briggs. He passed away at his residence in New Iberia on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 9:40 pm.
Roy grew up and attended school in Metairie, LA and was employed as a Parts Manager in the Automobile Industry for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and having a cocktail while watching Nascar and Indy racing.
He will be remembered and missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Boutte Briggs; one daughter, Angelica B. Derouen and Kevin; his step children; Damien “DJ” LaBiche and Kim; Dusti-Kay LaBiche and Dane LaBiche and Mitzi; grandchildren, Gabriel LaBiche, Dominic LaBiche, Kaden LaBiche, Dray Landry, Jax Landry, Bryce Nelams, Brie-ann Robicheaux and Haiden Robicheaux and two sisters, Madonna Jean Tyler and Constance “Connie” Ann Adams.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Scott Briggs.
Pallbearers will be Damien “DJ” LaBiche, Dane LaBiche, Kevin Derouen, Gabriel LaBiche, Dominic LaBiche, Kaden LaBiche, Jax Landry and Bryce Nelams.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kris Lindsay and staff of CIS and Hospice of Acadiana for the great care that was shown to them in this difficult time.
