She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Yvette Prudhomme and Beano; three sons, Kent Bernard, Sr. and Beth; Reed Bernard and Cindy; and Scott Bernard and Stephenie; her grandchildren, Brent Bernard, Blair Bernard, Elise Vega and Phil; Rebekah Russo and Brodie; Kent Bernard, Jr. and Saraith; Wade Bernard; Mitchell Prudhomme and Jill; Melissa Bernard and Justin; Nicolas Bernard; Gabriella Bernard and Jude Bernard; and her great grandchildren, Cosette Prudhomme; Clive Prudhomme; Emily Vega; Lannie Vega; Camile Vega; Evren Cumer; Dante Cumer and Ryker Cumer.
Along with her parents she is reunited with her husband, Nolan “Boy Blue” Patrick Bernard, Sr. and her children, Nolan Bernard, Jr. and his wife Stella Hutchinson Bernard; Jazelle Bernard; her "adopted" daughter Renee “NayNay” Burke and her infant grandson, Kent Bernard.
Affectionately called Mom, Toot, Granny and Toot Toot to her family and all her friends, she will be missed dearly. All will remember her as the Matriarch of the family who taught them to love Jesus and family with everything you have in you. She is known by many to always be dressed to the Nine’s and for her infamous double thumb in the shape of a heart.
Toot was a faithful and devout member of First Assembly of God in New Iberia for many years and dedicated her life in service of Jesus and her church.
She was employed at Abdalla’s and was an icon at Pat Walker’s in New Iberia where she helped women achieve their fitness goals for many years.
Thank you to the staff of Iberia Manor South for the love and care shown to her over the last four years, especially Dr. Robert Hankenhof and Iberia Medical Center staff. For each of you who touched her heart and ours throughout this journey, we are so very grateful.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kent Bernard, Sr., Reed Bernard, Scott Bernard, Beano Prudhomme, Mitchell Prudhomme and Brodie Russo. Honorary pallbearers are Brent Bernard, Kent Bernard, Jr., Wade Bernard, Nicolas Bernard, Jude Bernard, Phil Vega and Justin Cumer.
