LYDIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Charles O. “Sonny” Davey, age 80, at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia. Fr. Donovan Labbe will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Jeanerette. Sonny passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at his residence.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Charles, affectionately known by family and friends as Sonny, was born in Olivier on March 1, 1930 to the late Robert and Laura Legnon Davey. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during WWII. Sonny was a certified electrician and a retiree of Morton Salt with 13 years of service. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. Sonny will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ada Lancon Davey of New Iberia; three daughters, Linda Jernigan and husband Ronnie of Milton, FL, Michelle Camacho and husband Andrew “Tuffy” of Loreauville, and Renee Davey of New Iberia; four sons, Wayne Davey and wife Terri of Loreauville, William Davey, James Davey and Frederic Davey all of New Iberia; 18 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters, Virg Davey and wife PJ of Nibley, UT, Michael Davey and wife Ester of Jensen, UT, Dana Davey and wife Alfreda of New Iberia; Rose Mary DanCause and Becky Prince and husband Darrell of Lydia, and LouAnn Durdan and husband Ken of Nunez, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Laura Legnon Davey; sons, Keith and Joseph Davey; grandson, Seth Davey; and an infant brother, Leroy Davey.
Serving as pallbearers will be William, James, and Frederic Davey, Darrell Prince, Tuffy Camacho, and Nicholas Schouest. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Romero, Michael Paul Schouest, III, Matthew and Harley Davey, and Steven Camacho.
