Gladys was born in 1924 in Brooklyn as Gladys Wilson. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in 1942. In her early twenties, she met her future husband, Jerard Mulvihill, and the two married on August 31, 1957. Gladys and Jerard had four children together and eventually moved to New Hyde Park, where she lived for over 40 years. Gladys decided to go to college later in life, and she graduated with a Master’s degree in Education from Queens College. She worked as a Special Education teacher.
Gladys enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and socializing. She loved spending time with family and will always be remembered for her endless smile and optimism. She remained pleasant and appreciative even in her final days.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jerard Mulvihill, and her brothers, Howard and George Wilson. She is survived by her four children, Nora Whelan, Claire Haggard, Mark Mulvihill, and Tim Mulvihill, and her fourteen grandchildren: Alison, Kerri, Melissa, and Jenna Whelan; Jillian, Caitlin, and Christine Haggard; Michael, Kristen, and Jaclyn Mulvihill; Katherine, Maggie, Jamie, and Kelly Mulvihill.
Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9pm. Funeral mass Wednesday 10:15am at Notre Dame RC Church (New Hyde Park).
