age 80, of St. Michael and formerly of New Hope, died on January 2, 2012. Preceded in death by his father Edward and mother Bernadette, and two sisters, Joan Gilligan and Carol Kmecik. Survived by beloved wife of almost 60 years, Pat Erickson, their seven children and their spouses: Gary (Val), Greg (Diane), Pam Smith (Jim), Jeff (Donna), Susie Larson (Kevin), Karen Egeberg (Richard), Kris Hall (Don), their 19 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Ed is also survived by his two sisters, Audrey Kolstad and Bernie (Doug) Mercil, and many nieces and nephews.
As a faithful friend and public servant, some of his achievements include: serving his country in the Army from 1952 to 1954, including a tour in Germany, Mayor of New Hope for 26 years, president of the Sunrise Toastmasters Club in 1968, member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the youngest Grand Night of Knights of Columbus. Ed is one of the original founders of the North Metro Mayors Association, which is still going strong today. One of the accomplishments closest to his heart is the New Hope Mayoral Prayer Breakfast, which he co founded twenty years ago with Pastor Irv Woolf. Ed adored his wife, loved his family, being with his grandchildren, fishing, and making bird houses for his loved ones.
A Funeral Service will be held to celebrate Ed's life at 11:00 AM on Friday, Jan 6 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Rd. Visitation for 1 hour prior. He will be privately interred with military honors at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Kapala Glodek Malone Funeral Home of New Hope, 763-535-4112.
