Born and raised in Red Wing, MN, Arne was a proud Minnesotan whose life was marked by love, education, and a deep commitment to his family and community. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Gustavus Adolphus College, where he met the love of his life, Carol. A diehard “Gustie,” Arne was also a proud member of the swim team. He later pursued a master’s degree in Educational Administration from St. Cloud State University, a milestone that led to his distinguished career in education.
Arne dedicated the last 17 years of his professional life as the principal of Eden Prairie High School, where his unwavering commitment to fostering a positive learning environment shaped the lives of countless students and colleagues.
Beyond his career, Arne was a devoted husband to Carol, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a lifetime of memories, from their cherished time at the family cabin on Deer Lake, WI, spending winters in Ft. Myers, FL, and their many adventures traveling the U.S. and abroad. The cabin at Deer Lake held a special place in Arne’s heart, offering him peace, joy, and countless fun-filled gatherings with friends.
Arne is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his daughter, Erika Watson(Shannon); his sister, Judy Franson (Bruce); as well as his nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sons, Todd and Matt; his sister, Carolyn Norling; and his parents, Arne and Dorothy.
A Celebration of Arne’s Life will be held at Deer Lake in the spring, where family and friends can honor the remarkable man he was.
Arne will be deeply missed, but his kindness, integrity, and dedication to his family and community leave a lasting legacy. His influence and the values he upheld will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
