Thomas Michael McGowan, 79, of the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 12, 2014. He was the son of the late Mary (Raftry) McGowan and John McGowan. He was born in New York City on February 24, 1935. He served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, during the Korean Campaign. He was a proud member of Local 580 Ornamental Iron Workers for 58 years starting as an Apprentice Iron Worker then becoming a business agent for 24 years, retiring in 1992, and continuing as a local 580 member until his death. Tom was devoted to and survived by his wife of 58 years Joan (Feiss) and his children Thomas (Andrea) McGowan, Kim (Patrick) Doherty, Kelli (Duncan) Driscoll; Proud and loving grandfather of his twelve "pains in the neck": Jourdan, Jacqueline, Kristina, Cameron, Summer, Audrey, Ryan, Julia, Dakota, Caroline, Dawson, and Patrick. He was a man of impeccable strength, character and compassion which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He had a heart of Gold. "Got ya Last!" Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 16th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 17th at 10:15 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrot Road, West Nyack, NY, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY.
