Santia Santana was born on May 30, 1926 in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico to Vincente Damiani and Theresa (Martinez). She passed away at Joe Raso Hospice on July 23, 2013. Santia came to the United States in 1949 to the Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx, moved to Rockland in 1975, lived in Piermont and New Hempstead for 28 years and spent the last 12 years as a Valley Cottage resident. She enjoyed music, dancing and was an avid cook. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
She is predeceased by her husband Jose (2010), her son Angelo (2010), and by 3 sisters. Santia is survived by her daughter Dafni Martinez of Pomona, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 2 beloved grandsons and 2 great grandsons.
Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, New City. Mass will take place on Friday at 10am at St. Paul's Church in Congers. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Santia's honor to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokhum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
