John Joseph Kuzian, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 20, 2021 at the age of 81. John was born on December 9, 1939 to Verna (née Homenick) and Stanley Kuzian in Brooklyn, New York. John was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Holy Trinity High School. John worked at Chase Manhattan Bank while attending college at night. John graduated from St. John’s University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in January of 1964. Upon graduation, John became a Certified Public Accountant and worked for several companies in the New York area before retiring from the NYSA International Longshoremen’s Association.
On July 28, 1962, John married Margaret “Peggy” Brillante. John and Peggy moved to Rockland County in 1966, and except for two years living in Richmond, Virginia, John remained in the same residence in New City for the remainder of his life.
John was a devoted Husband and Father of 58 years. John adored his four Grandchildren. He could often be found telling them riddles and gifting them his trademark $2 bills.
John enjoyed traveling the world and vacationing with his family. He especially treasured his years of vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland with Peggy, his children and grandchildren. He truly loved family time, parties and winning concert tickets. He was always very fond of animals, especially all types of dogs. John would have a box of biscuits in his house just to be ready to give a treat to any dog walking by his house.
John loved Polka Music, dancing, and Polish Festivals. He also enjoyed watching hockey and baseball and was an avid fan of the New Jersey Devils. Among John’s many accomplishments, he completed three New York City Marathons.
John is a Veteran of the Air National Guard of New York performing the duties of a Medic transporting injured Servicemen. He served honorably for the United States from 1961-1967.
John was a devout Roman Catholic and could be seen every day at Mass. He was an active member of St. Augustine’s Parish. Many years ago, he was active in the New City Jaycees and the Rotary Club Organizations in Rockland County.
He is predeceased by his brother Jimmy. John is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, his brother (Michael) and his two sons and their beautiful wives, Gerard (Erin) and John (Carole), along with his four beloved Grandchildren; Emily, Joseph, Mary, and Alexandra. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. John will be resting in peace in Heaven with his triplets; Matthew, Jeffrey, and David.
Please join the family at Higgins Funeral Home on 321 South Main Street in New City, New York. Visiting hours will be 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, March 25. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 26 at 10am at St. Augustine Church on 114 South Main Street in New City, New York followed by Burial at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, New York.
