John served on the NYPD for over 20 years and retired as a detective in 1985. In the decades following his retirement, John owned a pub in Riverdale, NY, worked in construction, and eventually opened a private investigation company called Summit Systems. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His quick wit and wry, well-timed humor always brought smiles and laughter to those in his presence. He was a dear and loyal friend who maintained lifelong friendships that started in Sacred Heart Grammar School in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. More than anything else, John enjoyed being “Papa” to his adored grandchildren, Aedan, Bella, Arielle, and Emma.
He is predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Joyce, and his brother, Edward Joyce.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Maureen Joyce, sons John (Andrea), Brian (Gina), and Michael (Gabriela), grandchildren Aedan, Bella, Arielle, and Emma, sister Marilyn Joyce, cousin Frank (Joyce) Seery, and brothers-in-law Bobby (Michael Rosen) Perez and Tommy (Lynne) Perez.
