James Feeney September 26, 1944-September 7, 2023 James Michael Feeney, husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at home,surrounded by his loving family. Jim, or “Jimbo” as he was known to family and friends, was born and raised in Rockland County; attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School and graduated Albertus Magnus High School in 1962.
He then went on to Providence College and 1969 he received his law degree from Fordham University. While visiting a friend in Chicago, Jim met the love of his life, Julie Kent. They were married on August 1, 1970 and moved back to Rockland County where they put down their roots and raised their children.Jim was a well-known Real Estate attorney in Rockland County for almost 50 years. Jim decided to open his own law practice so that he could be present in his children’s lives not only as the best coach but more importantly, father.One of Jim’s greatest passions was watching his children excel in sports. Jim coached CYO basketball and was a major presence in the New City Little League as both coach and board member. A huge fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants and Notre Dame athletics, Jim himself enjoyed playing sports and in 1986 was inducted into the Rockland County Softball Hall of Fame. In 2008 Jim and Julie retired to Woodloch Springs, PA where they had previously spent endless vacations with their children. Jim was well known around Woodloch and enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
He was a partitioner of Queen of Peace in Hawley, PA. Jim was a devout Catholic with a deep faith and love of God. Predeceased by his daughter Clare, his parents Gertrude and James Feeney and his sister Kathleen Mistretta. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julie along with his 5 children, Christopher (Jennifer O’Neill Feeney), Jennifer Lovell (Broward), Mary Beth Drain (Terrence), Kathleen and Patrick (Erin Reynolds Feeney). He will forever be missed by his extended family, especially his nephew Anthony Mistretta as well as the entire Kent family. Jim’s legacy will be his 11 grandchildren, Sereena, James, Julie, Grace, Jack, Caroline, Hugh, Declan, Clare, Skylar and Joseph who he both spoiled and cherished equally.
Visiting hours will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Monday, September 11 th from 5pm-9pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 12 th at St. Aedans Church in Pearl River, NY at 10am, interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
