Evelyn Diaz

Evelyn Diaz a long-time resident of Orangeburg passed away after a short illness on January 31, 2023. She was born in Santurce Puerto Rico on July 15, 1935, to Ramona Rivera and Timeteo Dejesus. She graduated from City College in Brooklyn with a degree in Social Work and later obtained a Master’s in Education. She worked as a social worker, teacher, bilingual coordinator and as a Vice Principal at Juan Pablo Duarte School in Washington Heights in New York City. She retired in 1992 after which she worked as court translator in Rockland Country. She was married to Hector Diaz for 61 years before his death in 2017. She loved to play tennis, travel, spend time with her grandchildren and friends and going on trips to Atlantic City.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Diaz and her spouse Kevin Fisher of Prévessin-Moëns, France, her sons Raymond Diaz and his spouse Kim Diaz from Balston Spa New York and Anthony Diaz from Austin Texas, as well as her grandchildren Jose, Tomas and Isabella.

There will be a church service on Saturday February 4, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Church 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt New York. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society or to United Hospice of Rockland County.
