"Ellie" was a resident of New City for the past 60 years. She was born on October 14, 1930 in Bronx, NY, to Beth and Frank Charles, and was sister of Francis Charles. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Queens and married the love of her life, Martin Eugene Gannon, in 1950. She was predeceased by her loving husband "Gene" in 2003, and grandson Bryan in 2014. Eleanor was a member of the Hibernians Society, the Red Hat Society, volunteer poll worker and an active member of St. Augustine Church. She was an avid card player with many of her friends and loved to travel, including a dream trip to Italy in 2015. Ellie also cherished countless family milestones and sporting events. From soccer games, to girls weekend, trips into the city, graduations and weddings, she was always there to celebrate. She was also funny as heck, and no one will forget her many famous quotes.
Her greatest joys came while hosting and attending annual gatherings and being with her family. She is survived by her sons (and daughters-in-law) Michael (Cheryl), Paul (Jane), James (Lori), Thomas (Eileen), and William (Deborah). She is also survived by her many grandchildren (Jeffrey, Derek, Courtenay, Kerry, Erin, Shawn, Jillian, Kevin, Meghan, Jessica, Clare, Patrick, Kyle, and Tara). She also leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren, Liam, Rory, Silvia, Madilyn, Elise, Samantha, and Riley, in addition to many nieces and nephews. She will be missed tremendously, but never forgotten by all who knew her.
Family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-6pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
