Earle J. Walker of New City, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 5th, 2020. He was 76 Years old. Earle was a great New Yorker, and grew up a block away from his wife, Barbara. Earle and Barbara first met in elementary school in Harlem, and they were married in 1965. Earle graduated from George Washington High School and went on to receive his BBA from Baruch College, and his MBA from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. Earle’s entrepreneurial spirit soared when he opened Walker’s Ice Cream Palace in Harlem, New York. This establishment was frequented by the New York Knicks and many of the neighborhood’s youth in need of a mentor or friend. He simultaneously went on to pursue his corporate endeavors at the Port Authority’s Office of Business and Job Development in 1969. He was honored as a Black Achiever and won a mayoral award for small business excellence and achievement. After retiring from the Port Authority in 1998, he embraced the role as the Executive Director for the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors, a position he cherished until his retirement in February of 2020. Earle loved his family, gardening, golf, cooking, basketball, and especially football. He was the ultimate family man and adored being a grandfather, husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 55 years, his daughter Giana and her boyfriend Michael, his daughter Kirsten, and his son-in-law Wayne, and his precious grandchildren Kyra and Dylan who affectionately referred to him as “Peepa.” Earle is predeceased by his mother Susan. Earle’s laugh was infectious, and both his barbecue ribs and sangria were delicious. He will be missed for his incredible kindness, his cooking, and his indomitable spirit.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, the family will receive an intimate gathering of family and friends for his service at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. This will take place on Friday, July 10th from 10am-12:00pm. His burial will immediately follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on his behalf to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Autism Speaks, and Tourette Association of America.
