On the first day of spring in 1918, Nancy Birritta Salonia was born to the late Sebastian and Anna Birritta, and her step mother Maria Birritta in New Britain, Connecticut. Nancy Salonia, surrounded by her family, died four days short of her 96th birthday on the day that many celebrate as Saint Patrick’s Day. Nancy lived a full and vibrant life, always seeing the best in others with a kind and patient heart. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Nancy loved spending time at the beach in Old Lyme and in Florida. She loved cooking big Italian dinners for her family and friends; going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and watching UConn basketball games. Nancy was always the life of the party and enjoyed dancing and life’s simple pleasures. Nancy loved to shop and had a true passion for fashion. Nancy worked at the Fafnir Textron Corporation from 1966 to 1984. Nancy is joining her husband of 60 years, Gino Salonia, in heaven under the light of a bright full moon. Nancy and Gino lived and raised five children in New Britain, Connecticut. She is survived by her five children: Anthony and his wife Margaret Salonia of Southington, Gary Salonia of Old Lyme, Ronald and his wife Carin Salonia of Avon, Luann and her husband Albert Llanes of Lebannon and Darlene Salonia and her husband Glenn Dowd of Avon. Nancy’s eleven grandchildren were the loves of her life: Angela Blumberg, Karen Llanes, Kayla Dowd, Aubrey Llanes, Colin Dowd, Evan Llanes, Cameron Dowd, Gabriella Salonia, Brenna Llanes, Garrett Salonia, and Graydon Salonia. She is also survived by her sister Lilly Sirotnak of Belmont, California, Josphine D’Angelo of Southington, James Birritta and Janice Wilson of New Britain, and many loving nieces and nephews. Nancy always had a special place for her loving pets including Fluffy her loyal and loving cat who spent hours on her lap. She is predeceased by her sister Louise Sgroi. Funeral services will begin Monday, March 24, 2014 at 9AM at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Saint Ann Church, New Britain, Connecticut. Entombment will immediately follow mass at Saint Mary Garden Mausoleum, New Britain. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Nancy’s life on Sunday March 23rd from 3-6pm at the funeral home.
