Mary Torino Hackett, 94, of New Britain passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Hackett and mother of seven children. She is survived by Patricia Hackett of Newington, Gary and Jean Hackett of Farmington, Karen Hackett and John Hackett of New Britain, Maryann Hackett of Farmington, Timothy and Lynn Hackett of Wallingford, and Robert Hackett of Cromwell. She also leaves three grandchildren: Stephanie Hackett, Brett Bilodeau, and Justin Hackett as well as her nieces and nephews. Mary was the daughter of the late Bertha (Miller) and Joseph Torino. She leaves one sister, Lorraine T. Davis of Berlin. She was predeceased by her brother and his wife, Saverian and Lila Torino of Southington, by her sister and brother in law, Angelica and Thomas Aparo of New Britain, and by her brother in law, Robert B. Davis of Berlin. Mary graduated from New Britain High School, class of 1947 and the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1950. She worked at Newington Children's Hospital and New Britain General Hospital and accepted private duty assignments while raising her family. She also spent 17 years practicing industrial nursing at The Fafnir Bearing Company in New Britain. She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church. Mary enjoyed cooking for her family and their Sunday gatherings. She looked forward to picnics and parties with her brother, sisters and her nieces and nephews. She loved fashion, shopping, dining out with her sisters and trips to the casino. Mary was accomplished at sewing and knitting and loved to watch a good PBS drama. She was known for the twinkle in her eye and her beautiful smile. She was the heart of her family.
Friends and family may call at The New Britain Memorial-Sagarino Funeral Home on Tuesday morning, January 16th, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at Saint Francis Assisi Church, Stanley Street, New Britain at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
Mary's family would like to thank the staff on C5 at New Britain Hospital of Central Connecticut for the hospice care she received during her final days; their kindness and support are deeply appreciated.
