Mary Williams (Curtis) DeSimone, 97, lifetime resident of New Britain, passed on January 13, 2018. She was the daughter of Charles and Lila (Schantz) Curtis. Mary attended local schools. She was a former member of the New Britain Republican Town Committee and the Women's Republican Club. Mary was a former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader proudly leading GS Troop 67. She also created the first uniform exchange program.
She was the granddaughter of the late Orson F. Curtis, former Mayor of New Britain and Mary (Williams) Curtis. Mary leaves her husband of 68 years, Alfred "Freddy" DeSimone. Her two daughters and sons in laws, Linda and Alan Beder of Westlake, Ohio. Lana and Gregory Ogrodnik of Waterbury. Grandchildren, Michael (Lucy) Beder of Kent Ohio, Sarah (Beder) and Joseph Johnson of Seattle, Washington. Sharyn (Ogrodnik) Lavoie and Gregory Ogrodnik Jr. both of Waterbury. Three great granddaughters, Jordyn and Brooklyn Lavoie of Waterbury and Ella Johnson of Seattle, Washington. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Mary was also predeceased by her five brothers, Edwin, Charles, Robert W., Everett and Richard and her nephew Robert N. Curtis. The family would like to thank Mary's caregiver of the past ten years , Lydia Martinez, for the love and care she has given her.
Calling hours will be held at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 10:00-12:00pm, with a Prayer Service at 12:00pm. Her cremains will be interred at Fairview Cemetery, in the family plot, immediately following.
