Marianna Sokolowski, 87, widow of the late Eugene Sokolowski, since 2003, of New Britain, passed away on August 20, 2022 in Farmington surrounded by her family after a long illness. Born in Poland, to the late Stanislawa and Franciszek Gwiazdowski, she emigrated from Poland in 1964 for a better life in the United States and eventually settled in New Britain. Before moving to the United States, Marianna met and married her husband Eugene in 1953. Mrs. Sakolowski was employed at Stanley Hardware for 26 years as a diligent worker and retired in 1997. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church as well as being active in the Ladies Auxiliary – Haller Post #111 in New Britain. Marianna would also spend many afternoons at the Senior Center to meet with many friends. Marianna was a devoted wife and mother who cherished time spent with her family. In addition to raising her children, she maintained her career at Stanley Hardware. A light hearted woman, she had a loving gentle but strong and determined nature with a great sense of humor. Marianna enjoyed baking, gardening and spending time with her family listening to Polish music and Polish folk dancing.
After settling in New Britain, Marianna and Eugene dedicated much of their lives to their family. She had a passion for cooking, baking bread, nature, and taking walks, and above all, serving the Lord through readings and passing down her spiritual legacy to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Marianna will be most remembered as a woman of great faith who loved Jesus and attending church. When parting with her family, she always blessed the children and shared her pearls of wisdom and encouraged them to live for Christ.
Marianna will be dearly missed by her son, Kazimierz and his wife Brenda, of New Britain, daughter Christine and her husband Ted, of Farmington; her five grandchildren: Michael, Richard, Mark, Steven, and Jon; her three beloved great-grandchildren: Luke, Ellie, and Abigail; as well as her son-in-law, Roman. In addition to her parents, Marianna is predeceased by her daughter Jadwiga (Heddy).
Our family would like to express deep gratitude to the hospice staff for their wonderful care and many acts of kindness and support during her illness. A special thank you to Teresa for her big heart and stability she brought to our family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, Broad Street, New Britain at 10:00am.
