John P. Catanzaro, 90, beloved husband of Rose (Francolino) Catenzaro, of New Britain, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Born in Lawrence, MA, he was son to the late Nunzio and Giovanna (Corrizzi) Catanzaro. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, entering into service on September 16, 1943 in NRS New Haven, CT, serving many stations and vessels including; NTS Sampson, NY, AGS Norva., SS West Dupfee, AGC Brooklyn, NY, SS Thomas J. Lyons, SS John Howland, US Tadcen Shoemaker, Cal., USNB Navy 3142, receiving the American Theatre Medal, European Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal and separated on April 4th, 1946 in PSC Lido Beach, LI, NY. John had also worked for Angelo Tomasso for many years. In addition to his devoted wife Rose, John is also survived and will be dearly missed by his children: John R. Catenzaro and his wife Judy of Londonderry, NH, Diane Catenzaro of New Britain, James Catenzaro and his wife Meg of Marlborough, CT, Marie Delaney and her husband Shaun of Unionville and Bill Catenzaro of New Britain, his beloved grandchildren; Katie and husband Eric, Alissa, Bethany and fiancé Matthew, Ian, Nicole, Jake, Patrick, Maresa, Sean, Mollianne, Emily, Tyler and Dylan, many nieces and nephews, including his close nephew, Paul David Catanzaro. John was also predeceased by five siblings; Joan, Connie, Benny, Lindy and Greg. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 5-8pm at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain. Funeral services will begin Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 9AM for a brief gathering at the funeral home, followed by his funeral liturgy at 10AM in St. Ann Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, all in New Britain. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful and loving staff at the Dialysis Unit at the Hospital of Central CT-New Britain for their compassionate care.
