Gary John Gineo, age 69, passed away November 24, 2024 at Hartford Hospital. Born on February 7, 1955 in Hartford, CT, Gary was known for his love of life, nature and his generosity in helping others. Gary was a loving partner to Marjory Handel, a devoted father to his children and their spouses Jonathan and Chantel Gineo, Michael and Nicole Garcarz, grandfather to Carter, Gianna, Luca, Jordan and Lucia. His parents were the late Salvatore and Patricia Gineo. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses; Wayne and Ann Gineo, Donna and Dennis Goodrich, Linda and Bruce Larson, and Greg Gineo. He is also survived by his former wife, Santina (Sandy) Gineo, many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Gary undoubtedly touched the lives of everyone he knew.
Gary was a passionate lover of the outdoors, especially boating, fishing and skiing. He spent countless hours on the water, whether casting a line or enjoying boat rides with family and friends. He found great joy in his trips to FL, cherishing every moment spent with family and friends at the Daytona 500. Those who spent time with him will forever remember his calming presence, ability to listen, share stories, enjoy the peacefulness of a beautiful sunset or the sharing of a sweet treat on his picnic table.
A dedicated operating engineer of Local 478, Gary will also be remembered as a hockey coach and teacher to many, but it was his role as a friend, partner, and family member that defined his legacy. He will be remembered for his kindness and the genuine care he took in connecting with others. Without exception, he was the anchor that tied together many close friends at the Port Clinton Marina and more recently at the Dud’s Village community in Madison, CT.
Gary was a father not only to his own children but to Marjory’s children, Christian Handel, Emily Boido and to anyone else who needed one. Whether offering advice, lending a hand, or simply providing a safe space to talk, he was a father figure and role model to many — always ready to step up, no questions asked.
Visitation hours for Gary Gineo’s life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 between 9:00 am -12:00 pm along with a 12:30 pm prayer service at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, CT, 06053. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
Memories of him will last forever and he will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. His love of the water will live on in the hearts of those who shared those unforgettable moments with him. In a world that often rushes past, he always reminded us all of the power of being present.
