BARBARA ANN (PROSCH) BROWN, age 85, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2018. Barbara was born on October 25, 1932 in New Haven, Connecticut to George J. Prosch and Emma M. (Ferguson) Prosch. She was a graduate of East Haven High School and went on to earn her Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Education at New Haven State Teachers College (Southern Connecticut State University). She served as an elementary school teacher in Cheshire, CT. She then dedicated many years working at home caring for her family. She had a home-crafting business, and owned and operated a Pak-Mail franchise in Florida with her husband. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; Edward Brown, her husband of 46 years. Barbara is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Son Michael Brown and wife Denise of Melbourne, FL; Daughter Susan (Brown) Trowbridge and husband John of The Woodlands, TX; Daughter Kathleen A (Brown) Boyle; Son Stephen Brown and wife Debra of Southington, CT; and Daughter Margaret Brown of Watauga, TX. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including: Tyler Trowbridge, Beth Garvey and son Wyatt of Mullica Hill, NJ, Bethany (Trowbridge) Morales, husband Carlos, and children Layla and Jake of Mashpee, MA; Chelsea (Boyle) Rodrigues, husband Paulo, and children Arianna, Edward and Peter of Renton, WA; Morgan (Boyle) Holter and her husband Sean of Bellevue, WA; Griffin Boyle, wife Shelby and daughter Raelynn of Hilliard, FL; Colton Boyle of Renton, WA; Hayley Brown of Bristol, CT; Hillary Brown of Pownal, ME; Hayden Brown of Webster, MA. Barbara was also blessed by the close, loving relationships she had with her brothers and sister-in-law Warren and Mary Brown, William and Betty Brennan, Anne and Louise Gemmel, Raymond and Mary Berg, and William Brown. She is survived by sister Linda Adil. Barbara was a woman of faith and a heart of gold. Barbara had a great love for her husband, children, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren She always put others first, faithfully caring for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking from scratch, canning, sewing and crafting. She loved to dance, sing, swim, play scrabble, read, knit, crochet, and make crafts which she sold at craft shows for years with her husband Ed, and she loved to chat with friends and family, especially with her Grand- and Great Grand-children. In her early years she was a member of Eastern Star, a fife and drum corps, and served on many committees in school. She was a long-time parishioner of Holy Angels Church, Meriden, and in Florida was a member of the Palm Bay Estates community, where she served as the Sunshine Lady, reaching out to welcome new members, and helping them celebrate special occasions.
The family is grateful for the excellent care provided for our mother over the past several years by Dr. Mohammad El Zufari and The Forum at The Woodlands, TX. A Funeral Home Service with Deacon Michael Rubitz will be held on Monday October 8th at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9-11am at the Funeral Home.
Barbara was a 39-year breast cancer survivor and devoted contributor to the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Her family requests, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Barbara’s name be made to the American Cancer Society (donate3.cancer.org) or the St. Vincent DePaul Society (www.svdpusa.org).
