Ruth Elizabeth Owen, 100, passed away on April 30, 2023, in New Braunfels, Texas. Ruth was born on February 12, 1923, in Bonne Terre, Missouri to Linn and Bertha Cole. She grew up in Bonne Terre, attended Bonne Terre public schools and graduated from Bonne Terre High School in 1941.
Ruth married Clyde M. Owen on April 19, 1942, and after serving in the United States Army during World War II, they settled in Bonne Terre. Her proudest moments were when she and Clyde were married and having two sons, Leslie Linn Owen and Clyde Medferd Owen, Jr. After Clyde’s death in 1984, Ruth began volunteering at the Girl Scout office in Fort Worth where she received numerous awards for her service including awards for 15, 20 and 25 years of service, two Honor Pins, Thanks Badge I and Volunteer of Excellence Award. She also received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush. She lived in Fort Worth for over 35 years where she enjoyed many good friends and activities. Ruth was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a member of the session and sang in the choir.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Linn and Bertha Cole, her husband, Clyde, and her sister, Pearl Bryan.
She is survived by her sons, Leslie (wife Paula) and Medferd (wife Pam). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Pat (wife Kim), Teresa (husband Matthew), Tyler (wife Ashley), Chris (wife Andrea) and ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
