Roger Ervin Thieme was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on Feb. 20, 1933 to Ida and Ervin Thieme. After graduating from Central High School he was accepted into the Air Force Aviation Cadet program and sent to Lackland Air Force Base for Basic Training. Upon completion of flight training he became a flight instructor in Greenville, Mississippi where he met Shirley Bozeman, his wife of 52 years. During his distinguished career, Roger served tours as a flight commander in the Republic of Vietnam, Spandalem Germany and throughout the United States. He was also selected to lead several special Top Secret projects while on loan to the General Dynamics Corporation in Fort Worth, Texas. He retired out of Kelly Air Force Base in 1974.
After his retirement, he worked for American Chromalloy, Gas Turbine Support Division, for 18 years. Not wanting to retire, Roger started a new career in real estate, where he worked for Century 21 in New Braunfels until his death. While working at these jobs, Roger also helped Shirley with their two shops, Kristi’s Cards, Candles and Gifts. His easy-going personality and friendly nature endeared him to all he met.
Above all, Roger was a family man. He was blessed with three children and one grandson. He cherished time with all of them and spent some of his most memorable events at family gatherings. He enjoyed hunting and just being out in the woods with family and friends.
Roger is survived by his wife Shirley Bozeman Thieme; son Michael and wife Paula; son Allan and wife Stacie; and daughter Kristi and husband Jack Ely, along with grandson Jason Ely. Other survivors include his brother Richard and wife Emma Thieme and brother-in-law Jake Hermann, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister Helen Hermann.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Zoeller Funeral Home Chapel. Family has requested that Memorial contributions be made to Hope Hospice or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
