Mary Burnett Warren passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26th, 2021 at Eden Hill Communities at the age of 100. She was born on October 5th,1920 in Philadelphia to parents Clarence M. Burnett and Mabelle Ewing Burnett. Mary’s family moved from Philadelphia, PA, to Middletown, NY during the depression and she finished high school there. She enrolled in Russell Sage College, Troy, NY, with help of an Aunt in the Midwest. Her father didn’t feel women needed a college education. At Russell Sage she met her future husband. She graduated with a BS of Home Economics and was offered a teaching position in Downsville, NY. She loved telling the stories of her time in Downsville. She signed up to join the Waves in 1943 as a communications officer. She was assigned to the Code Room in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. She married Capt. Richard F Warren USMCR on Dec. 21st, 1944 in the Navy Yard Chapel. Her husband returned to the Pacific theater and later taught for a while in Quantico, VA. They moved from there to Philadelphia and later moved to New York. Corporate moves took them to New Jersey and to Houston, TX in 1965. There she played golf, volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital and played bridge. Mary and Dick moved to New Braunfels in 1980 to be closer to their son and grandchildren. She quickly became active in the DAR. She was known by her friends as someone who always had a story to tell and she remembered friends by the stories they told.
She is survived by her children: daughter Patricia Mulvey of Houston, TX, and son Richard Warren and wife Paula of New Braunfels, TX. Granddaughters: Noelle Rodgers and husband Jeffrey of Keller, TX, Erin Hader and husband Matt of Houston, TX, Dr. Meredith Gowens and husband Geoffrey of New Braunfels,TX. Great grandchildren: Carson and wife Allison Koehler of Seguin, Kenady Koehler and Cort Koehler of New Braunfels, TX, Luke Hader of Houston, TX, Aidan and JohnPaul Gowens of New Braunfels, TX, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard F Warren of New Braunfels, TX, son John Warren of New Braunfels, TX, brother William Burnett of New Braunfels, TX, and granddaughter Natalie Trevino of New Braunfels, TX.
