Peggi was born to Ernest E. Sowell and Margaret Mamie (Beck) Sowell in Harlingen, TX. She graduated from Harlingen High School, and attended Delmar College where she met and married her husband, Jimmie Daniel Russell, on May 29, 1965. Jimmie and Peggi were married 48 years, until his death in 2014.
During her college years, Peggi was chosen as a DeMolay Sweetheart for exhibiting enthusiasm and friendship to all, as well as always acting in a manner that merited the honor, respect, and admiration of those around her. Peggi attended Delmar College, and then, North Texas State until she became pregnant with her daughter, Andrea, and decided to focus her time on the duties of motherhood. She spent many days and nights accompanying on piano student solos and ensembles, in order to pay for college, and continued to play for students for the next 40 years.
The first half of her life revolved around raising her two children, attending concerts as a band director’s wife, working as a school administrative assistant, and serving as an elder’s wife at Kings Crossing Church of Christ. She eventually retired after working as an AP’s assistant at Moody High School. After Jimmie passed away in 2014, she went to live with her daughter and her daughter’s family in Rowlett, TX. Peggi continued living with them for the next 12 years, enjoying her life as a grandmother and then, as a great-grandmother. She loved traveling to visit family and friends, watching Sci-Fi, going to movies, attending church, watching football, and cheering on the Astros. In the final years of her life, she resided with her family in New Braunfels, TX, was an active member of New Braunfels Church of Christ, enjoyed lots of Chinese food, and snuggled her great-grandchildren every chance she got.
She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Lynn and son-in-law Joey Wrape of New Braunfels, TX; son, Jonathan David and daughter-in-law Shar Russell of Vero Beach, FL; five grandchildren; Trey Wrapp and his wife Chelsea, Darian (Russell) and her husband Payton Minzenmayer, Jordyn Wrape, Jayce Russell, and Shaila(Russell) and her husband Elijah McCoy; and six great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Peggi was a devoted Christian and loved God first and foremost. She will be dearly missed by her family, and friends, and will always be known for her smile, her blue cardigan, and telling her family that she loved them.
A graveside service will be held at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on September 29, 2023 at 9:00 am.
